The name

The Vel and the foundry

Vel

In Tamil, vel is Lord Murugan's spear, widely read as knowledge that is sharp, broad and deep: the knowledge that ends the darkness of ignorance. That is the work: finding the failure hidden in production before anyone else does.

Foundry

A foundry casts metal into parts that carry load and last. We fix what we find so it holds, and a fix counts only when it's verified twice.

Swamimalai

Swamimalai, near Kumbakonam, is one of Murugan's six abodes, and the home of the sthapathis who cast bronze by the lost-wax method, a craft carried down from the Chola era. The Vel and the foundry already meet there. Our name joins them.
